WWE Smackdown Live Blog - September 30th

Friday Night Smackdown kicks off from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada tonight. We could see some surprises as some of the roster can’t travel to the show. Maybe Brock Lesnar? I talked about that earlier here:

I’ll be live reacting here and live reacting here

Ricochet and Madcap Moss starts the show off against Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa. - 8:05

Zayn and Ricochet start us off. - 8:07

Madcap Moss tosses Ricochet off and into Zayn and Sikoa. Very nice spot as we go to commercial with Ricochet smiling. - 8:09

Back from the break with Sikoa and Ricochet in the ring. Sikoa has the advantage. - 8:14

Moss and Zayn both get tagged in and Moss bull rushes Sami Zayn. Moss has intensity, which is more than you can say about most of the roster. 8:16

Sami Zayn with a roll up on Moss and then a Blue Thunder Bomb for two quick outs in a row. - 8:17

Moss rolls throw a dive from Sami and gets him in a pin attempt that gets broken up by Solo Sikoa. 8:18

RIcochet jumps face first into a chair by Sikoa. - 8:19

Sikoa tags in and gets the pin on Moss. - 8:19

Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa are backstage and go into the Bloodline’s locker room to be greeted by an angry Jeey Uso. - 8:25

Jey says he knows Sami and warns him not to mess with the family. Sami tells Jey to take it up with Roman. - 8:26

Awesome segment with Karrion Kross and Scarlett. Kross obviously is doing a tremendous job. Guy’s super talented and I’m surprised AEW didn’t make more of a push for him. - 8:28

Austin Theory’s backstage for an interview with Kayla Braxton. Theory says he’s been getting screwed over when trying to Cash in and runs down Winnipeg. - 8:29

Theory’s running down Drew McIntyre who’s standing right behind him. Drew tells Mr. Money in the Bank to meet him in the ring. - 8:30

Drew’s our first and Theory comes out with Alpha Academy! Chad Gable is another awesome part of WWE TV. - 8:38

McIntyre’s taking out his aggression from not winning the WWE Title and from the Karrion Kross beat down. - 8:39

Alpha Academy gets involved and Otis drags Drew out for the DQ. Drew wins! - 8:40

Beat down by Alpha Academy and Austin Theory on Drew. - 8:41

Johnny Gargano comes out and gets beat down as well but Kevin Owens comes out for the save! - 8:42

Definitely didn’t have Gargano and Owens saving Drew McIntyre on my 2022 Bingo Card. - 8:43

Max Dupri and the Maximum Male Models are backstage  Dupri is excited because they said they’re getting the Title tonight. Which title? The Title for longest Canadian pose of course! - 8:44

Hit Row comes out to make fun of them and they attempt again. - 8:44

Los Latharios take on Hit Row in action right now. - 8:49

Assuming Hjt Row gets the win. They’re the ones who getting some kind of push right now. - 8:50

Ashante Thee Adonis takes on Humberto Carrillo to start off but Carrillo makes a quick tag to Angel Garza. - 8:52

Top Dolla had both of Los Lotharios up at the same time and slammed them down. Adonis comes in for the win and Hit Row continues their climb. - 8:54

Ronda Rousey is backstage lighting into Liv Morgan ahead of their Extreme Rules match. - 8:57

Ronda Rousey vs Natalya takes place right now. - 9:01

Natalya almost got the win (kayfabe) but she taps to Ronda in the middle of the ring after holding on for a bit. - 9:05

Liv Morgan comes out with a baseball bat but Ronda isn’t intimidated. The two take it to each other and are trying to go after the bat after a tussle on the outside. - 9:06

Ronda tosses Liv over the barricade and gets the bat. - 9:07

Ronda roses the bat and starts to leave but a crazed Liv Morgan gets up from behind and goes after Ronda. - 9:08

We’re seeing a ton of chaos between the two and we’re seeing a mean streak develop for Liv Morgan. - 9:09

I wonder how this compares to that AEW brawl with CM Punk and The Elite. - 9:09

Drew, KO and Johnny Gargano are backstage talking about the weird pairing. - 9:09

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens are backstage and Kevin Owens laughs at Sami’s shirt and tells him to get a new shirt. - 9:10

Imperium is out and Gunther is running down Sheamus but he’s out here now. Solo. - 9:18

Ridge Holland and Butch are sadly stuck in Florida. - 9:19

Sheamus looks for a Brogue Kick but Imperium attacks him and Gunther lays him out. - 9:21

They leave but Sheamus calls them back and they beat him up more. - 9:31

Bayley vs Shotzi is now and Shotzi’s back out with her tank! - 9:30

Nice little match between them! Bianca Belair comes out and brings it to Bayley. They face each other at Extreme Rules. - 9:38

Backstage with the Maximum Male Models posing and they almost break the Canadian record but get decked by Max Dupri or should I say, LA Knight? - 9:39

Main Event time as  Chad Gable starts off with Johnny Gargano. Two faced off recently on Raw. - 9:47

I don’t know what’s set Kevin Owens off over the next few months? Perhaps losing to a 60 year old in the worst state in America? - 9:55

Stunner from Owens to Gable through the announcer’s table and McIntyre hits a Claymore to Theory for the babyface win. - 9:57

Whelp, no Brock! Pretty missable episode of Smackdown. - 9:58

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How they bungled this storyline, I’m not ent

The State of Professional Wrestling - 11-29-21

I have a lot of thoughts on the state of professional wrestling in 2021. I think it’s great that AEW is around now and that they’re presenting a great product. I think WWE has the potential not be really boring but I think the consensus is that most of the time it’s just a really boring show. I cannot tell you the last time I sat through a 3 hour Raw. Oh wait, yes I can. September, 9th, 2013 and that’s only because I was at the damn show.       WWE has a problem with stagnation. The product continually feels the same and I think there’s an obvious reason for that. WWE is too scripted. I think there’s a noticeable difference in the presentation between WWE and AEW. AEW feels like a legitimate sports show and WWE feels like broadway theatre without the music. I don’t think it’s a problem with the talent. When you go top-down, guys like Roman Reigns, Big E, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Jeff Hardy and Kevin Owens are all main event players.

Several AEW Releases Reported

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported on Monday that announcer Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J, and Parker Boudreaux have been cut from the roster. PWInsider additionally reported that The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry have also been released.   We have word on several All Elite Wrestling releases. On Monday, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J and Parker Boudreaux have been released.  In addition to Sean’s announcements, PWInsider reported the release of The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry. PWInsider also notes that AEW is "evaluating their talent roster and making cuts to benefit both the company and the talents."  This is the second time Stu Grayson has been released from the company. Maybe the third time in the future will be the charm.  I wonder what happens to Parker Boudreaux. He has the look of a future World Heavyweight Cha
