What Does Bryan Danielson Think AEW Does Better Than WWE?

What does Bryan Danielson think AEW does better than WWE? It’s all in the wrestling, unsurprisingly. In an article posted to Bloomberg’s website that talked about the inception of All Elite Wrestling, they spoke to Bryan Danielson about the company he works for now.

Bryan says Vince McMahon asked him about what he thought of AEW while Bryan was still with WWE in 2020. Bryan said that he while he was on paternity leave, he combed through everything AEW was doing. All of their matches, promos, anything Bryan could get his hands on.

Bryan came to the conclusion AEW put more of a focus on the in-ring competition. Rather than the characters, and long promos. AEW rarely opens with a long talking segment, while WWE starts most of their weekly shows that way.

“It feels like you’re watching a wrestling show without any wrestling,” Danielson said to McMahon.

I would argue that AEW puts too much o focus on the matches and not the storylines.  There’s a healthy balance between the two that should be on a wrestling show. A guy like CM Punk is invaluable for that reason. He’s a wrestler who can carry a story on TV and deliver a great match worthy of the build.

It can’t be argued that AEW outpaces WWE in terms of in-ring matches. Although sometimes, I’d say they have too much wrestling at times. At times it feels like the shows are too rushed and wrestlers are trying too hard to show off how creative they can be. WWE let’s their shows breathe. They have rest spots. Video packages that give you a chance to grab a snack or take a leak.

Bryan Danielson is a wrestlers wrestler. So it should be no shock this is how he feels. I think Bryan is the greatest to ever do it. As far as a wrestler goes. He’s amazing. He fits well in AEW because of what he told Bloomberg. A guy like The Miz wouldn’t have as much success in AEW but thrives in WWE.

Saying all that, WWE’s main roster match quality has gone up recently. Matches featuring Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens Gunther and the recently returned Cody Rhodes have upped WWE’s in ring quality. The gap for in-ring match quality between the companies is tightening as the Triple H era rolls on.

I can’t wait to see how the rivalry between WWE and AEW develops. At the end of the day, there’s 2 companies with money paying good money to the wrestlers we love. They have an opportunity to show off their craft and it gives fans like me something to talk about.

I highly recommend checking out the Bloomberg article on AEW. It’s worth it. Hit me up on Twitter for more!

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How they bungled this storyline, I’m not ent

The State of Professional Wrestling - 11-29-21

I have a lot of thoughts on the state of professional wrestling in 2021. I think it’s great that AEW is around now and that they’re presenting a great product. I think WWE has the potential not be really boring but I think the consensus is that most of the time it’s just a really boring show. I cannot tell you the last time I sat through a 3 hour Raw. Oh wait, yes I can. September, 9th, 2013 and that’s only because I was at the damn show.       WWE has a problem with stagnation. The product continually feels the same and I think there’s an obvious reason for that. WWE is too scripted. I think there’s a noticeable difference in the presentation between WWE and AEW. AEW feels like a legitimate sports show and WWE feels like broadway theatre without the music. I don’t think it’s a problem with the talent. When you go top-down, guys like Roman Reigns, Big E, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Jeff Hardy and Kevin Owens are all main event players.

Several AEW Releases Reported

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported on Monday that announcer Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J, and Parker Boudreaux have been cut from the roster. PWInsider additionally reported that The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry have also been released.   We have word on several All Elite Wrestling releases. On Monday, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J and Parker Boudreaux have been released.  In addition to Sean’s announcements, PWInsider reported the release of The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry. PWInsider also notes that AEW is "evaluating their talent roster and making cuts to benefit both the company and the talents."  This is the second time Stu Grayson has been released from the company. Maybe the third time in the future will be the charm.  I wonder what happens to Parker Boudreaux. He has the look of a future World Heavyweight Cha
