What Went Wrong for Rusev in WWE?

Rusev was one of the most promising wrestlers to enter WWE in recent years. He had an impressive resume, having competed in multiple promotions around the world, and his size and strength made him a natural fit for the company. However, despite a promising start, Rusev's tenure in WWE was ultimately disappointing. In this blog post, we'll explore why Rusev's WWE career fell short of expectations and what it means for the wrestler going forward.

One of the biggest factors in Rusev's disappointing WWE tenure was the company's inconsistent booking of him. Despite his impressive size and strength, Rusev was often portrayed as a comedic character. He seem to flail a bit on his own, without his wife Lana with him. These storylines often felt out of step with Rusev's character and left fans feeling unsatisfied.

Another issue was the lack of opportunities given to Rusev to showcase his skills in the ring. While he was certainly given some high-profile matches during his time in WWE, including a WrestleMania match against John Cena, he was often relegated to mid-card status or used as a glorified jobber. This prevented fans from seeing what Rusev was truly capable of in the ring and made it difficult for him to establish himself as a credible threat.

Finally, Rusev's WWE career was hampered by injury. He suffered multiple injuries during his time in the company. Injuries that were serious enough to keep him out of action for extended periods of time. These injuries prevented him from building momentum and establishing himself as a top-tier wrestler.

Despite these setbacks, Rusev's WWE tenure wasn't all bad. He had some memorable moments, including a dominant run as United States Champion and a WrestleMania match against John Cena. He was also a fan favorite and had a strong social media presence, which helped him connect with fans in a way that few wrestlers have been able to do.

Looking ahead, it's unclear what the future holds for Rusev. He was released from WWE in 2020 and has since signed with AEW, where he has been performing under the name Miro. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to break through in AEW and establish himself as a top-tier wrestler, but one thing is for sure: Rusev/Miro is a talented wrestler who deserves better than what he received in WWE. You can certainly make the same argument about his time in AEW up to this point.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How t...

If John Cena Beats Cody Rhodes he Technically Becomes an 18-Time World Champion

John Cena won the Elimination Chamber on Saturday night and secured an Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania this April. What followed was a shocking heel turn that fans have wanted for years. That’s not what I’m talking about here. We’re talking about how John Cena will technically become an 18-time World Champion if he beats Cody Rhodes. That would put him two ahead of Ric Flair.  Ever since Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar to unify the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship. From that point on, WWE recognized Roman as having two Championship reigns. With the Universal Championship and with the WWE Championship. Same with Cody Rhodes when he beat Reigns for the Undisputed Championship at last year’s WresteMania. If you look at WWE’s website it shows two concurrent reigns for Cody.  If Cena beats Cody it’s always possible that WWE in the future recognizes this as one World Title reign instead of two. There’s a few of Flair’s reign...

Bobby Lashley Issues Warning to Jon Moxley

Bobby Lashley debuted in All Elite Wrestling on October 30th last year, rejoining his former WWE stablemates MVP and Shelton Benjamin, forming The Hurt Syndicate. Lashley and The Hurt Syndicate are one of the hottest acts in AEW right now with Lashley and Benjamin winning the World Tag Team Titles last month. It’s inevitable that Bobby Lashley will get a World Championship shot at some point. He’s very over right now and a legit main event talent.  Lashley gave a warning to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley when speaking to the Sporting Tribune . Lashley said it’s only a matter of time till they face off but he’s focused on his tag team right now. Lashley said that when Jon Moxley sees him in the locker room, he stays clear of him.  Despite being cheered like a babyface, Bobby Lashley is a heel and Jon Moxley is also a heel so I don’t see them facing off soon. But I like the idea of a Moxley/Lashley match whether it’s for the Title or not. Saying that, I’d also be a fan of Bo...
