Is Ridge Holland’s Retirement a Work?

Ridge Holland has had a wild career trajectory throughout and his next step could be the wildest. Retiring. On last night’s WWE NXT, Ridge Holland announced that he’s stepping away from wrestling. This is leaving many fans wondering if it’s a work or a shoot?

I personally am hoping this is a work because I think Ridge has a lot of potential. Is he the greatest in ring wrestler? No. But he’s an athlete and looks like a guy you wouldn’t want to mess with at a bar. Which is essentially what his gimmick has been so far. A big barroom brawler.

Maybe this retirement angle will lead to Ridge breaking out of that character. Into a character with more depth. We’ll see if Ridge can do that. That is assuming this is a work. Who knows? Maybe we did see the end of Ridge Holland’s career on last night’s NXT.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How they bungled this storyline, I’m not ent

The State of Professional Wrestling - 11-29-21

I have a lot of thoughts on the state of professional wrestling in 2021. I think it’s great that AEW is around now and that they’re presenting a great product. I think WWE has the potential not be really boring but I think the consensus is that most of the time it’s just a really boring show. I cannot tell you the last time I sat through a 3 hour Raw. Oh wait, yes I can. September, 9th, 2013 and that’s only because I was at the damn show.       WWE has a problem with stagnation. The product continually feels the same and I think there’s an obvious reason for that. WWE is too scripted. I think there’s a noticeable difference in the presentation between WWE and AEW. AEW feels like a legitimate sports show and WWE feels like broadway theatre without the music. I don’t think it’s a problem with the talent. When you go top-down, guys like Roman Reigns, Big E, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Jeff Hardy and Kevin Owens are all main event players.

Mickie James Vacates Impact Knockouts World Title

Mickie James gave wrestling fans some unfortunate news on Impact last night.  The upcoming pay-per-view event, Rebellion, was set to feature a Knockouts Championship match between Mickie James, Deonna Purazzo and Jordynne Grace, but due to an injury, James was uncertain to compete. Unfortunately, on last night's episode of Impact Wrestling, it was announced that Mickie James would vacate the title due to a broken rib. While it's always a disappointment to see a champion unable to defend their title, the show must go on. In this case, Rebellion will still feature a Knockouts Championship match, but it will be a singles match between Jordynne Grace and Deonna Purazzo for the vacant title. Both wrestlers have been impressive in the Impact Wrestling promotion, and this match promises to be a show-stopper. While it's unfortunate that Mickie James won't be able to compete, the silver lining is that this match gives Jordynne Grace and Deonna Purazzo the opportunity to shine on
