Thoughts on Bully Ray's WrestleMania Appearance?

At WrestleMania this year we saw Bubba Ray Dudley return to WWE to be the special guest referee for The Pride beating The Final Testament. It was a nice return to Philadelphia for an ECW legend, one that hasn't been seen on WWE TV for years. They had to have more of an ECW presence than just seeing some of the other originals during Paul Heyman's WWE Hall of Fame induction. I thought bringing Bubba out in front of the crowd was cool although it would have been nice to see Brother Devon too.

Nowadays, Bubba still occasionally wrestles as Bully Ray in TNA. He's also a host on the Sirius XM pro wrestling show Busted Open. On Busted Open Bubba said this was the first time he was able to really take in and enjoy the WrestleMania experience.

"People are going to say, 'Oh, that sounds crazy, you've been involved in so many great ones and had so many memorable matches,' but the level of stress that came with those matches, you're not able to take it all in. You're so inside your own head because you expect perfection from yourself, and it's a lot of pressure as we all know. It's really not fun because it's so stressful. Last night, I went out there and instantly I saw the whole stadium, I was able to take it in. I was able to sit back and smell the roses for the first time."

What did you think of the appearance? Bubba has a complex relationship with fans but I've always been a fan of he and Devon. They needed some kind of ECW pop and Bubba Ray was a great way to do that.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How they bungled this storyline, I’m not ent

The State of Professional Wrestling - 11-29-21

I have a lot of thoughts on the state of professional wrestling in 2021. I think it’s great that AEW is around now and that they’re presenting a great product. I think WWE has the potential not be really boring but I think the consensus is that most of the time it’s just a really boring show. I cannot tell you the last time I sat through a 3 hour Raw. Oh wait, yes I can. September, 9th, 2013 and that’s only because I was at the damn show.       WWE has a problem with stagnation. The product continually feels the same and I think there’s an obvious reason for that. WWE is too scripted. I think there’s a noticeable difference in the presentation between WWE and AEW. AEW feels like a legitimate sports show and WWE feels like broadway theatre without the music. I don’t think it’s a problem with the talent. When you go top-down, guys like Roman Reigns, Big E, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Jeff Hardy and Kevin Owens are all main event players.

Several AEW Releases Reported

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported on Monday that announcer Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J, and Parker Boudreaux have been cut from the roster. PWInsider additionally reported that The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry have also been released.   We have word on several All Elite Wrestling releases. On Monday, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J and Parker Boudreaux have been released.  In addition to Sean’s announcements, PWInsider reported the release of The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry. PWInsider also notes that AEW is "evaluating their talent roster and making cuts to benefit both the company and the talents."  This is the second time Stu Grayson has been released from the company. Maybe the third time in the future will be the charm.  I wonder what happens to Parker Boudreaux. He has the look of a future World Heavyweight Cha
