Thoughts on Cody Rhodes Thanking Bruce Prichard at WrestleMania?

Cody Rhodes successfully finished his story at WrestleMania and beat Roman Reigns to become the WWE Champion for the first time in his career. In Cody’s speech after he of course thanked Triple H but also thanked Bruce Prichard. What did you think of this?

I’m a fan of Something to Wrestle, I’ve listened to countless hours of Bruce Prichard talk about wrestling. I’m a big fan of Bruce’s. He’s worked in wrestling for years both behind the scenes and on screen as “Brother Love”. The fact that Cody took time to thank him shows how he’s viewed in WWE.

Prichard returned to the company in 2019 after 11 years away. He took a position in creative and has bounced around in a few rolls since then.

Here’s the thing with Bruce. He may be the biggest Vince McMahon guy out there. Bruce worked alongside Vince during many successful years with the company. From the Golden Age to the Attitude Era to the Modern Era. Outside of those 11 years away and before he got to the company, he’s been one of Vince’s right hand men. Even during his years away from WWE you wouldn’t catch Bruce saying a bad word about Vince McMahon. On his podcast he’d joke around about Vince but never took any real jabs at him.

Vince McMahon is currently facing the biggest lawsuit of his life. A lawsuit that accuses him of depraved sex acts. It’s tough when the guy you’ve went to bat for, for so many years is public enemy #1. A lot of people would argue that Bruce should have cut ties with Vince long ago. And I’m not saying this is right, but without Vince McMahon Bruce Prichard wouldn’t be in the position he’s in.

Maybe he’d be working as a consultant for TNA or AEW. He would not be in WWE though. Especially not in the high ranking position he’s in now. One that got him a thank you at the biggest show of the year from the new Champion.

What did you think of Cody bringing him out? Do you think it was a good call or a bad one, given his relationship with Vince McMahon? I’m curious to see the discourse on this one.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How they bungled this storyline, I’m not ent

The State of Professional Wrestling - 11-29-21

I have a lot of thoughts on the state of professional wrestling in 2021. I think it’s great that AEW is around now and that they’re presenting a great product. I think WWE has the potential not be really boring but I think the consensus is that most of the time it’s just a really boring show. I cannot tell you the last time I sat through a 3 hour Raw. Oh wait, yes I can. September, 9th, 2013 and that’s only because I was at the damn show.       WWE has a problem with stagnation. The product continually feels the same and I think there’s an obvious reason for that. WWE is too scripted. I think there’s a noticeable difference in the presentation between WWE and AEW. AEW feels like a legitimate sports show and WWE feels like broadway theatre without the music. I don’t think it’s a problem with the talent. When you go top-down, guys like Roman Reigns, Big E, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Jeff Hardy and Kevin Owens are all main event players.

Several AEW Releases Reported

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported on Monday that announcer Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J, and Parker Boudreaux have been cut from the roster. PWInsider additionally reported that The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry have also been released.   We have word on several All Elite Wrestling releases. On Monday, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J and Parker Boudreaux have been released.  In addition to Sean’s announcements, PWInsider reported the release of The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry. PWInsider also notes that AEW is "evaluating their talent roster and making cuts to benefit both the company and the talents."  This is the second time Stu Grayson has been released from the company. Maybe the third time in the future will be the charm.  I wonder what happens to Parker Boudreaux. He has the look of a future World Heavyweight Cha
