WrestleMania 42 is coming up next month and WWE’s still formulating the card. It seems like a foregone conclusion that CM Punk defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Roman Reigns will main event Night 2, but what about Night 1?
The obvious choice is Randy Orton challenging Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The two have history together and Cody Rhodes is arguably the company’s biggest star, while Randy Orton’s a living legend. While this is a worthy contender to main event, I don’t think this is the move. It doesn’t have the spice that a WrestleMania main event has. Despite WWE turning Randy Orton heel on Smackdown recently, the fans are still going to cheer him meaning this will be a babyface vs babyface match. Which takes away from the spice level.
The best option to main event WrestleMania Night 2 is Jade Cargill defending the Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley. Ripley’s the biggest women’s wrestler going right now and one of the most popular stars in the whole company. Jade Cargill’s one of the fastest rising wrestlers in recent memory and is doing some of her best character work in her whole career presently. I’ll also just say it, I like the idea of having the women main event one night of WrestleMania, and the men main eventing the other night. It puts a spotlight on the women’s division and rewards their work over the past year.
What do you think should main event WrestleMania Night 1? Should it be two of the most dominant women’s wrestlers of all time going at it in Jade Cargill vs Rhea Ripley like I think? Or should it be legacy’s colliding in Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes? Give me your thoughts in our comment section or any of our social media channels.
