Is it the time to pull the trigger on a Jacob Fatu World Championship reign? Fatu’s getting a rematch against Roman Reigns at Clash in Italy in a couple of weeks. Fatu was unsuccessful against Reigns at Backlash and now gets another shot in Tribal Combat. Fatu’s arguably a future face of the company and a win against Roman Reigns overseas would firmly cement him in the main event scene.
This will be the third Tribal Combat match in WWE history and Roman Reigns has been in all three. You could say it’s his speciality match so one may assume he’ll win the match. Well my friends, let me point out that The Great Khali lost his only Punjabi Prison match against Batista at No Mercy 2007. The Undertaker also lost a Casket Match to Shawn Michaels at Royal Rumble 1998. Just because it’s a speciality match doesn’t mean it’s a guaranteed win.
I’ve talked about this before but WWE desperately needs new stars and Jacob Fatu has the potential to be the next Umaga but more athletic and arguably more charismatic. Fatu has shown that he can be the number one face of a company as seen in Major League Wrestling before he debuted for WWE. The fact that he’s facing the biggest star in the company in main event matches is a testament to how WWE views him.
A lot of people are going to ask if Jacob Fatu is ready or not. Let me remind you that he’s not the youngest of guys. He’s 34 years old and not getting any younger. He’s shown the ability to maintain cool under pressure during main event matches in MLW and has carried shows he’s been on. He may have bypassed developmental, but his time in the indies have set him up for a big run. There’s a reason why guys like Jim Cornette have heaped praise upon Fatu.
Do you think it’s time for Jacob Fatu to fully ascend to the main event and beat Roman Reigns for the World Championship at Clash in Italy? Or should he be another guy that gained momentum but is ultimately just another “out” in the complete game that Reigns is pitching? I’ve been a supporter of Fatu for years, he’s one of those guys that I thought be a big deal in wrestling. I trust the opinion of those who have believed in him for years and I became a big fan, myself.
