CM Punk Speculation Running Rampant on Social Media

Speculation is running rampant about “The Best in the World” CM Punk tonight. Supposedly there’s something about him that hasn’t been reported yet. I’ve seen people talking about Punk leaving WWE to join AEW, having pitched something that the upper brass didn’t like at WrestleMania to him being injured as a reason. What’s real and what’s fictitious? The rumours have been talked about by JCup2013 and Sean Ross Sapp on X. Sapp especially and JCup as well are known for their scoops.

I don’t have any insider knowledge like they may have, but I do have Google. Which tells me that Monday Night Raw takes place on July 6th from guess where? CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

If I’m a betting man, which I am, I’m putting a bet on Punk returning there. This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen him take a post-WrestleMania break. Look at 2013 after he wrestled the Undertaker, and look where he returned. At Payback against Chris Jericho from Chicago. Now saying this, Punk left the company less than a year after this but that’s beside the point.

The reality is that CM Punk’s not far off from 50 years old and he hasn’t had a prolonged break from WWE since his injury a couple of years ago. “The Second City Saint” has built himself back and rightfully earned back the respect of his doubters. He deserves a break. In my opinion that’s all this is. A legendary wrestler who needs a break. That’s what’s different than break in 2013.

Still, the speculation continues to run wild. Why haven’t we heard anything until today though? When there’s some there’s fire, but sometimes that smoke just blows away.

There is a ZERO percent chance that Punk is leaving WWE for All Elite Wrestling. Let’s get that out of the way. Well at least any time soon. If this 5 years down the road, who knows, right? But in the immediate future, there’s no way this happens. Punk was unceremoniously let go by Tony Khan after All In 2023 and there hasn’t been anyone publicly clamouring for him to return. If Punk returns to AEW, I promise you the reader that I will print out this blog post and eat it. Will it be in a soup, smoothie or pasta dish? You better believe it. I’m not that crazy after all. Hell froze over once, let’s hope for my stomach’s sake that it doesn’t happen again.

What do you think the deal is with CM Punk? Are you with me that he’s just taking some time off, or do you think there’s more to the story? Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp is going to discuss it tomorrow on The Hump with Jon Alba so we’ll see. I think that’s Raw from Chicago is where Punk returns and starts his SummerSlam program. If this show comes and goes though and there is no CM Punk that’s where the cause for concern comes from

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. In his promo, Punk said that his contract expired next month and that he, the Number One Contender, would be leaving  WWE with the WWE Championship. He’d also go onto take shots at not only his opponent the following month, John Cena but other icons in the history of WWE. Whether employed by the company or not. He’d also tease defending his WWE Championship in Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Essentially he’d be a travelling World Champion, ala the territory days. Well, CM Punk did win the WWE Championship the next month from John Cena at Money in the Bank. However, what would happen after would disappoint wrestling fans more than anything else that’s happened in years.       How t...

If John Cena Beats Cody Rhodes he Technically Becomes an 18-Time World Champion

John Cena won the Elimination Chamber on Saturday night and secured an Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania this April. What followed was a shocking heel turn that fans have wanted for years. That’s not what I’m talking about here. We’re talking about how John Cena will technically become an 18-time World Champion if he beats Cody Rhodes. That would put him two ahead of Ric Flair.  Ever since Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar to unify the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship. From that point on, WWE recognized Roman as having two Championship reigns. With the Universal Championship and with the WWE Championship. Same with Cody Rhodes when he beat Reigns for the Undisputed Championship at last year’s WresteMania. If you look at WWE’s website it shows two concurrent reigns for Cody.  If Cena beats Cody it’s always possible that WWE in the future recognizes this as one World Title reign instead of two. There’s a few of Flair’s reign...

Bobby Lashley Issues Warning to Jon Moxley

Bobby Lashley debuted in All Elite Wrestling on October 30th last year, rejoining his former WWE stablemates MVP and Shelton Benjamin, forming The Hurt Syndicate. Lashley and The Hurt Syndicate are one of the hottest acts in AEW right now with Lashley and Benjamin winning the World Tag Team Titles last month. It’s inevitable that Bobby Lashley will get a World Championship shot at some point. He’s very over right now and a legit main event talent.  Lashley gave a warning to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley when speaking to the Sporting Tribune . Lashley said it’s only a matter of time till they face off but he’s focused on his tag team right now. Lashley said that when Jon Moxley sees him in the locker room, he stays clear of him.  Despite being cheered like a babyface, Bobby Lashley is a heel and Jon Moxley is also a heel so I don’t see them facing off soon. But I like the idea of a Moxley/Lashley match whether it’s for the Title or not. Saying that, I’d also be a fan of Bo...
