Matt Taven is reportedly garnering interest from WWE. He, along with Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis and Vince from Honor No More have finished up with Impact Wrestling recently. On today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE is interested in the former ROH World Champion, Taven.
If Matt Taven goes to WWE, he won’t be getting a main event push like AJ Styles or Cody Rhodes got when coming into WWE. They’re a different level of star than him. While I enjoy Taven’s work, there’s a reason he’s just now getting first look from WWE.
I envision a player/coach role for him. I think there’s a spot in NXT for veteran wrestlers to feud with the up and coming stars. A guy like Matt Taven would be excellent in a roll like that. I’d bring in Bennett and Maria as well. I’d even bring Vincent in too. They all have wisdom they can impart on the up and coming developmental stars. From a storyline standpoint, they could do Bennett/Maria against a pair of rookie’s in an on screen relationship. They could have Matt Taven wrestle a young champion like Carmelo Hayes and teach them what it’s like to be a champion. Throw Vincent in here too and you have a good group that can work with younger wrestlers.
Don’t dismiss the idea of Matt Taven coming in, he could be a valuable veteran for WWE in Triple H’s version of WWE. Follow along on Twitter for more updates and keep it locked here for more commentary on news.
