Who Was Samoa Joe's Mystery Challenger, The Golden Vampire?

On this week’s AEW Collision, ROH Television Champion Samoa Joe was scheduled to take on The Golden Vampire. A mysterious competitor dressed in all-gold with some fake vampire teeth logos. He kind of looked like a more tame Goldust. It was our first time seeing this mysterious character in AEW.

Before Joe could even get to the ring, The Golden Vampire attacked. It ended with a running knee into the corner and a Go To Sleep. Sound familiar? The Golden Vampire of course was CM Punk. Punk took off the mask and accepted Joe’s challenge for All In at Wembley next Sunday.

CM Punk is putting his Real World Championship on the line against Samoa Joe. I expect Punk to win the match and retain his Title. Unless his backstage issues are too serious, and then maybe he drops it and puts over his long-time friend, Samoa Joe.

Book This Episode 1: The Summer of Punk Rebooked Prelude

Let’s go back to 2011, specifically June of 2011. CM Punk’s contract is expiring soon and he’s getting ready to have the biggest run of his career. On June 27th, 2011 CM Punk would cut a promo that would have the wrestling world buzzing for years to come. The State of Professional Wrestling - 11-29-21

I have a lot of thoughts on the state of professional wrestling in 2021. I think it’s great that AEW is around now and that they’re presenting a great product. I think WWE has the potential not be really boring but I think the consensus is that most of the time it’s just a really boring show. I cannot tell you the last time I sat through a 3 hour Raw. Oh wait, yes I can. September, 9th, 2013 and that’s only because I was at the damn show. WWE has a problem with stagnation. The product continually feels the same and I think there’s an obvious reason for that. WWE is too scripted. I think there’s a noticeable difference in the presentation between WWE and AEW. AEW feels like a legitimate sports show and WWE feels like broadway theatre without the music. I don’t think it’s a problem with the talent. When you go top-down, guys like Roman Reigns, Big E, Brock Lesnar, Edge, Bobby Lashley, Randy Orton, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor, Jeff Hardy and Kevin Owens are all main event players.

Several AEW Releases Reported

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported on Monday that announcer Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J, and Parker Boudreaux have been cut from the roster. PWInsider additionally reported that The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry have also been released. We have word on several All Elite Wrestling releases. On Monday, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported Dasha Kuret, Stu Grayson, Jose the Assistant, Jora Johl, Gravity, Slim J and Parker Boudreaux have been released. In addition to Sean’s announcements, PWInsider reported the release of The Boys (Brandon and Brent Tate) and Anthony Henry. PWInsider also notes that AEW is "evaluating their talent roster and making cuts to benefit both the company and the talents." This is the second time Stu Grayson has been released from the company.
