Which Stadium Stampede Match is the Best?



AEW’s Stadium Stampede returns tonight at Double or Nothing for the first time in three years. The chaotic match is happening at the Louis Armstrong Arena in Queens, New York. All In London in 2023 was the last show this match was at and it’s been missed by fans since. AEW opted for Anarchy in the Arena for past several Double or Nothing’s but this is the first time a stadium’s available. It’s one of AEW’s signature matches and was even featured in their video game Fight Forever. The first Stadium Stampede took place at Double or Nothing 2020 and received heaps of praise from fans and critics alike. With the match returning tonight, I’m asking which Stadium Stampede match is the best in your opinion. 


The first one saw Matt Hardy and The Elite teaming up to defeat Chris Jericho and his Inner Circle. Hardy, Adam Page, Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson and Kenny Omega taking on Jericho, Jake Hager, Ortiz, Santana and Sammy Guevara. This match looks so lopsided in favour of The Elite in hindsight. However, it was an awesome match. I think it still holds up as one of the most fun matches in AEW history. It happened during the pandemic and took place in the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium. This was during the early days of AEW when they were trying to carve out their niche as an alternative to WWE. Stadium Stampede’s craziness and visuals like Matt Hardy in a golf cart helped that. It’s one of the best received matches in the early days of AEW and still gets talked about. I’m a huge NFL fan so it was especially cool to get a look at their stadium from that angle. Oh yeah, and Hangman Page rode a horse. 





The following year’s Stadium Stampede also took place at Double Or Nothing and was in the Jags stadium again. This time the match saw Chris Jericho run it back with The Inner Circle. The exact same lineup going against MJF’s group The Pinnacle. MJF’s formidable team featured Dax Harwood, Cash Wheeler, Shawn Spears and Wardlow. Despite having one of the best tag teams in the world, they couldn’t get it done and The Inner Circle reigned supreme. Meaning that Chris Jericho and his teammates evened their record in Stadium Stampede. This match also took place in the Jags’ stadium. The two highlights of Urban Meyer’s tenure in Jacksonville was beating my Bills and appearing during this match. Chris Jericho and MJF battled in his office and Meyer even gave Jericho a laptop to bash MJF with. This match like the previous year’s match was a ton of fun but I’d have to put it a notch below. It’s not a steep drop off like the disparity between Die Hard 1 and 2 but the original is better. 





Stadium Stampede took a break in 2022 before returning at Wembley Stadium at All In 2023. The first Stampede match to take place outside of America, and the first to not be the main event. AEW’s “Ace” Jon Moxley got his first crack at Stadium Stampede. Eddie Kingston, Penta, Chuck Taylor, Trent Beretta and Orange Cassidy defeated Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Santana and Ortiz. Santana and Ortiz are the only wrestlers to be in every Stadium Stampede match. That changes tonight as Ortiz will not be part of it, and Santana’s the World Champion of a competing company. This match was for the “sickos” in my opinion. It had more death match elements than the previous Stampede matches, including Penta skewering Jon Moxley. A lot of people love this match, that spot disgusts me so it drops a tier down. No offence if you love this match, and it is good but not exactly what I’m looking for in a match. 




The fourth Stadium Stampede is happening tonight and it’s the biggest one to date. 7-on-7 with Jericho, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, Kenny Omega, Jack Perry, Matt and Nick Jackson taking on Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, Toa Liona, Mark Davis, Andrade El Idolo, Clark Connors and David Finlay. Does this lineup have the potential to become the best Stampede match in history? It’s featuring the return of Jericho, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks to the match type, and all four are some of the best wrestlers in AEW history.

If John Cena Beats Cody Rhodes he Technically Becomes an 18-Time World Champion

  John Cena won the Elimination Chamber on Saturday night and secured an Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania this April. What followed was a shocking heel turn that fans have wanted for years. That’s not what I’m talking about here. We’re talking about how John Cena will technically become an 18-time World Champion if he beats Cody Rhodes. That would put him two ahead of Ric Flair.  Ever since Roman Reigns beat Brock Lesnar to unify the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship. From that point on, WWE recognized Roman as having two Championship reigns. With the Universal Championship and with the WWE Championship. Same with Cody Rhodes when he beat Reigns for the Undisputed Championship at last year’s WresteMania. If you look at WWE’s website it shows two concurrent reigns for Cody.  If Cena beats Cody it’s always possible that WWE in the future recognizes this as one World Title reign instead of two. Bobby Lashley Issues Warning to Jon Moxley

Bobby Lashley debuted in All Elite Wrestling on October 30th last year, rejoining his former WWE stablemates MVP and Shelton Benjamin, forming The Hurt Syndicate. Lashley and The Hurt Syndicate are one of the hottest acts in AEW right now with Lashley and Benjamin winning the World Tag Team Titles last month. It’s inevitable that Bobby Lashley will get a World Championship shot at some point. He’s very over right now and a legit main event talent.  Lashley gave a warning to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley when speaking to the Sporting Tribune . Lashley said it’s only a matter of time till they face off but he’s focused on his tag team right now. Lashley said that when Jon Moxley sees him in the locker room, he stays clear of him.  Despite being cheered like a babyface, Bobby Lashley is a heel and Jon Moxley is also a heel so I don’t see them facing off soon.
